Anecdotals: A compassionate exploration of the nuanced vaccine debate.

“Anecdotals”
A compassionate exploration of the nuanced vaccine debate.
A film by Jennifer Sharp.
In March 2021, the night of my Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination, I woke up in the middle of
the night with the deepest night sweats I’d ever had. As I felt the soaked sheets, I
realized that it was only the left side of my body that was sweating. In fact, the left side
of my body was hot with a seeming fever while the right side of my body felt cool and
dry. The throbbing headache only affected the left side of my head, and the next
morning I could not feel the entire left side of my face. This was the beginning of all
that would come next—progressive neurological issues, being outcast from society for
not being fully-vaccinated, lost work, and the making of the documentary,
“Anecdotals”.
I am a filmmaker who believes that filmmaking is an art and artists have a responsibility
to share their truths with the world. My truth was being in 3 separate support groups
and confronted with thousands of people devasted by the vaccine, while the
government was censoring our stories. My truth was people in my immediate circle
refusing to show concern for the fact that I was injured and mandated out of society.
My truth was hearing daily stories of people losing their jobs, houses, and life to this
vaccine. After a bit of hesitation, I knew I had no choice. It was my responsibility to tell
my truth. I had no money, but I did have 20 plus years of film experience and I knew
how to make quality projects on a shoestring budget. So in January of 2022 I began
gathering interviews and writing the structure of “Anecdotals”. And in September of
2022, I had my first public screening at the National Health Freedom Congress in
Minneapolis and was shocked to win an award and receive a standing ovation.
I never expected the critical acclaim that “Anecdotals” has received. Every single
screening has been met with a standing ovation followed by a 2-hour discussion that
retains most of the audience the entire time. When someone asked me what my goal
was with the movie, I had three crystal clear reasons:
1. To help people who are injured know that they are not alone.
2. To educate the pro-vax people who could still be enlightened to a different
reality if presented with the facts.
3. To make a historical documentation that would tell society 100 years from now
what it was like to be alive in this moment of time—for some of us.
I wasn’t concerned with making a masterpiece. I was making a movie that I knew
would never sell and I was aware that most platforms wouldn’t stream it. It was my
duty and nothing more. But the letters and e-mails and comments were pouring in:
“Thank you for this video. I am in absolute tears. No one has even captured my story except realnotrare.
21 months to breathe. All the same crap, numerous doctors, reported to Vaers, CDC and Moderna.
People pretending we don’t exist. Silencing our true stories. The internal tremors, the loss of muscle use, the vertigo and constantly feeling like you’re dying. Thank you for being a voice for ALL of us who have
been injured. I only had one dose and it has taken almost two years to begin to heal.”
“Once upon a time you would see stories like this on 20/20 or nightly news. Now it’s up to a private citizen
like this to care enough to expose people to some real hard truths. Great work.”
“By the midway point of this movie I was in tears. I’m so sorry for all these people who were vaccine
injured, it truly breaks my heart. Thank you Jennifer for making this movie and giving these people a
voice.”
For a while, I was optimistic that I was part of this movement to bring awareness and
change. I was opening people’s eyes to the worldwide suffering of those who had lost
their houses and jobs and spent nights curled on the floor with no hope for cures or
reasons or treatment. I was creating awareness about the lack accountability from the
pharmaceutical companies who covered up the data that acknowledged these
reactions, and the fact that the vaccine-injured were getting no help from the
government who mandated the vaccines. I was calling out the lack of sympathy from
the pro-vax mainstream who had doubled down on viewpoints that they had been
spoon-fed. “Anecdotals” was opening eyes, and it was gentle enough that people
could share with estranged family members. This movie wouldn’t blame, shame, or
turn them away.
But underneath my optimism and positivity, there were ugly truths seeping in:
• A family member watched the movie and even praised it slightly, then followed
with, “but I’ll still get as many boosters as they let me get”.
• I was also getting a lot of great media opportunities: Jimmy Dore, Kim Iversen,
McCullough, Kirsch and even FOX news. But still NO mainstream left leaning
media would cover the movie. In fact, an MSNBC reporter told us that it would
be “political suicide” to cover it.
• The political division and hatred in this country was getting stronger than ever
and the voices of the vaccine injured were drowned out by the mud-slinging.
Here I am now, almost one year since the premiere of “Anecdotals,” and the movie still
gets views and comments. We had 3 sold out screenings in Bermuda followed by a
local TV station running it for a month. Other amazing in person screenings have been
in Santa Monica, Wisconsin, Denver, DC, Maryland, Minneapolis, and more to come.
But this subject continues to create strong divisions and many people prefer to argue
and prove that they are right, rather than do the work of finding compassion while
disagreeing. Discussions that cross ideological lines are more than important—they are
critical. And as the media warns of a new variant surging, and the government officials
and doctors continue to urge people to get the latest booster, a large number of
people live with chronic pain, unfathomable medical bills, no support, no hope, and no
one listening.“Anecdotals” continues to circulate and do its part; and I continue to have discussions
with people who don’t see things the way that I do. I urge everyone who reads this
article to share “Anecdotals” with a few people in your life who may be resistant, and
have the hard conversations. It has been made available for free with no Ads so that
it’s easily accessible. The movie has also been approved by YouTube! So share and
talk and if you think the movie was worth the price of a movie ticket, feel free to make a
