California Residents Standing Up to Stop Harmful Cell Towers
Los Angeles County CA, Encinitas CA, Nevada County CA, Santa Cruz CA and San Mateo CA residents are saying “No Place in Our Community!”
Under the settlement, Los Angeles County officials must ensure that new cell towers and 5G antennas meet strict fire risk safety standards and that residents are given a two-week notice and comment period before the county approves new tower applications. Encinitas, California residents join together to fight against federal control of cell towers installed in their community, near homes, schools, playgrounds and churches. If H.R. 2289 Federal cell tower takeover becomes law there would be no informed consent, no safety oversight, and an industry shielded from liability. The community asked the mayor of Encinitas to represent the concerns of the community. Encinitas, Mayor Bruce Ehlers wrote a letter to the Federal Communication Commission FCC on behalf of the community. Letter
Nevada County, California A Nevada County, California, woman won the right to intervene in Verizon’s federal lawsuit after the county blocked the company’s plan to build a 13-story cell tower near local homes, and Verizon responded by suing the county. Residents say the tower threatens children’s safety, poses fire and structural risks, and would harm the neighborhood’s property values. Read more
Residents of Santa Cruz County, California, are suing the county for allegedly illegally approving the placement of a 140-foot AT&T cell tower in a rural residential neighborhood. Read more
San Mateo, California residents successfully pushed to adopt stronger regulation on small wireless facilities, but the resulting policy could now be in jeopardy if the Federal Communications Commission follows through on efforts restricting cities’ ability to limit installation. Read more
